What is Hypnotherapy?

HEALTHY EATING & HYPNOTHERAPY CASE STUDY
This is the story of a young woman who I saw a few months ago with regards to weight loss issues. For reasons of confidentiality I have changed her name to Sarah.
Sarah is a young woman who lives with her partner, she constantly binged on cakes and puddings and jam sandwiches.
On occasions she would hide food in her wardrobe cupboards, in her office, and she was constantly in and out of the fridge and cupboards eating different sweet foods.
Sarah’s issues appear to have begun around 14 years of age where she described her poor self confidence and body image.
By the time she reached 17 years old and was getting ready to leave for University she became bulimic - although this tapered off. While at University she had a problem with a man she met and started to binge again.
In Sarah’s first session I employed suggestion therapy, subsequently she stopped eating, cakes, puddings and jam sandwiches, in fact anytime she saw these items of food she said she felt sick.
Sarah said the emotion attached to wanting to eat all the time had gone. She stated that she eating more fruit and drinking more water and has joined a local gym and taken up swimming and yoga.
On her second visit I reinforced what we did in the first session together. In an earlier analytical therapy session with another hypnotherapist which was contra – indicated; as she felt that the habit that had been formed did not appear to have a foundation source in a key event earlier in life.
During this session I taught Sarah self – hypnosis to assist her with her weight loss programme. By the time we met for her third session; Sarah had lost a stone in 6 weeks since her very first session.
Sarah’s self confidence and self esteem has grown immensely and she describes herself as feeling brilliant. Sarah finished her sessions with me and later told a friend Jayne about me who also had a good outcome.
Sarah’s story highlights that occasionally; a straightforward proposal to therapy often works well without the use of deep rooted analysis.
This may not always be the case if a person’s problems continue in spite of the best efforts undertaken and this is where analysis may sometimes be required to search for a possible emotional cause.
Behaviour is often just behaviour and Sarah’s own attitude towards her own weight loss was excellent her own will enabled her to change her diet and undertake a regime of exercise.
